Sewing on Binding – Part 3

16/12/2013

Now that we’ve sewn on 2 different bias bindings that you use for armholes, necklines and anything that has a curved edge we are now going to do a binding edge that is more just for decorative reasons.  It’s a contrast binding around a hem of a dress, top, sleeve, collar etc.  If you missed out on Part 1 and 2 from the last two weeks click here:  Part 1 and Part 2.

This is how I’ve done the binding edges on my dress hems for  Audrey Lane dresses.  It’s quick, easy and finishes the hem off just nicely.

Ok, let’s get started!
Cut your binding piece the width of the fabric x 3.2cm/1 1/4″
DON’T CUT ON THE BIAS THIS TIME.

With the right side of the binding place it onto the wrong side of your garment.  Pin and sew 6mm/1/4″ in from the edge.

Turn your garment over to the right side and fold the binding in to meet the edge of the garment.  Iron the binding flat.

Fold over again and pin.
Make sure you cover up the stitching underneath.

Stitch the binding down on the inside edge.

Here’s the finished project……or you can take it one step further…

Make another row of stitching on the outside edge of the binding.
I always do this with my sewing projects as it gives the binding a crisper finish and looks great!

And that’s it EASY, PEASY…… bindings are a great way to introduce contrast and interest to your garment.

Next week we are tackling another type of binding that is great for armholes and necklines!

I’m so excited to announce that my very new addition to the 1 Puddle Lane ladies range…..The Blossom Party Dress…….is now available to order!

My lovely friend, Dee, looks fabulous modelling her new Blossom Party Dress

I thought about the price extensively and didn’t know which way to go so I have 3 prices for you to choose from to help you out.

1. FULL CUSTOM MADE – $150 – you will receive a Blossom Party Dress made to fit you. Along with choosing the style and fabric you’ll need to fill in a measurement form. Which I will send to you after you place your order. I can also help you with choosing fabrics that will suit your colouring! In other words, I work with you all the way to make sure you get a beautiful dress that you are happy with.

2. PART CUSTOM MADE – $120 – if you don’t quite fit the standard size and you just want either the waist smaller or bigger or the bust smaller or bigger the length of the skirt shorter or longer. This service will be covered in this price. I can also help you with choosing fabrics that will suit your colouring!

3. STOCK SIZES – $105 – these will be dresses made from standard sizes ranging from size 8 to size 18. Below you’ll find a sizing chart to compare your measurements to. If the measurements are right for you…..fantastic. Easy peasy! You’re done and good to go. All you need to do is choose your fabrics.

Loving my new iPhone

30/01/2012

Have iPhone will travel!  Right?  Have you got an iPhone…….do you love it as much as I do?  I’m a bit of an Apple groupie at the moment.  I love my iMac, Macbook, iPad and now my new iPhone.  I often say that if there was an Apple Church I would go every Sunday.

I’m finding I’m rediscovering my home and my neighbourhood through the lens of my phone AND instagram.  And really enjoying it!

So I decided to take a few pics and I thought what a better subject than the other item I’m absolutely loving at the moment.  My Blossom Party Dress.  So I thought I’d take you on a small journey of the making of my favourite dress.  Did I mention I have 5 of these in my wardrobe now and wear them everywhere!

Enjoying the fruits of my labour AND hubby took me out to dinner!

My Blossom Party Dress will be made available to order on Wednesday 1st February and I have a little sweetener to add to the mix, but you’ll have to wait till Wednesday to find out more.

Until then pop on over the my facebook page and check out the styles and fabric selections.  I know I want 1 of each!!

HAPPY CUSTOMER INTERVIEW #1 – my gorgeous little model Gaby – the face of 1 Puddle Lane

19/07/2011

Each week I’ll be interviewing one of 1 Puddle Lane’s happy customers and putting them in the spotlight.  And to start things off this week my gorgeous little model Gaby tells us a little bit about herself.

Hi Gaby, how old are you?  I’m 3 turning 4 this month.  I like to trick people and tell them I’m turning 5 just like my cousin in England.

Where do you live?  I live in Brisbane with my mummy, daddy and Nicky Dean….my little brother.

What do you do during the day?  I love to go to the park and play on the slide with my mum and brother Nick.  I go to Kindy on Wednesdays and Thursdays, and I love playing, painting and dressing up with all my friends.  I also go to Kind Ballet on Mondays.  I love dressing up in my pink tutu! I also love swimming in my pool.

What is your favourite food?  My favourite food is ice-cream and any flavour.  If I had my way I would have it for breakfast, lunch and dinner.  But mum says I have to have other foods to help me grow big and strong.

What is your least favourite food?  I don’t like tomatoes.  Mum sometimes tries to hide the tomatoes in my favourite foods, but I’m too clever and pick them out!

Who is your favourite person and why?  My favourite person is my friend Savannah.  I miss her soooo much, she lives in Townsville.  I love it when she and her family come to visit.

What is your favourite joke?  We don’t really know any jokes.

What is your favourite 1 Puddle Lane dress?  I love all my 1 Puddle Lane outfits.  My most favourite is my yellow over the shoulder floral dress.

And Gaby what would you like to be when you grow up?  I want to be a mummy when I grow up, just like my mummy.

Thank you Gaby for letting me interview you to find out a bit more about you.

Would you like your daughter featured in my Happy Customer Interview, email me 1puddlelane@gmail.com
